Art Deco was at once an immediately recognizable motif in Gilles Mendel’s fall collection. Structure and ease complemented each other beautifully in the house’s sumptuous gowns and tailored separates, most of which were paired with decadent minks and fox furs that continue to be the utmost of modern and fresh. Paired with chic “tattooed” boots that were made in-house by Mendel (no more Louboutin collaborations), this season he added a new dimension to the subtle color palette: elegant patterns inspired by aboriginal tribal body art. Carefully etched on silks and satins, some beautifully beaded (the first time Mendel has done so), many of the gowns looked destined for the red carpet. Simply put, this collection had its finger on the pulse of what women of means want today.
