Donna Karan Collection Fall 2011

donna_karan_rw_1.jpg

Who else better than Donna Karan to empower women glamorously? For fall her message was clear: big-screen heroines that served up a healthy dose of both masculinity and femininity. “Pearls of Wisdom” was how Karan deemed the collection. These were serious power clothes for the power woman. Structured, yes, but done so in a way that didn’t compete with its wearer; instead it was beautiful and bold. The subtle and obvious drapes and folds were welcome. The diagonal fold of one dress fell ever-so gently while another formed a cowl that sat the way it dropped. The neutral hues–moonstone, face powder, ice silver shadow and pearl–were all various shades of grey, but everything was so terribly old Hollywood chic. Karan’s not about spending two hours in front of the mirror every morning; her clothes create an easy confidence. The bold pieces came in the form of shearlings that were beautifully tailored. But what stole the show for me were the dramatic fur cuffs. Get on that waitlist now.
