Who says you have to wear a four-figure dress to make a statement? Could Demi Moore be setting a new trend? The ageless actress attended her husband, Ashton Kutcher’s, “No Strings Attached” premiere Tuesday night looking ravishing in a dress by Carven. Carven, you ask? A quick recap: started in 1945 as a couture house by Madame Carmen de Tommaso, the label quickly grew to dress not only movie stars and European royalty, but a Who’s Who of the social elite. Having waned in recent years, the label is quietly making a comeback in ready-to-wear thanks to the talents of former Givenchy designer Guillaume Henry. Staples will include cocktail dresses, perfect-cut pants and modern coats. Judging by Demi Moore’s turnout in a Carven Spring 2011 zipper dress, which she paired with Brian Atwood heels, the label is sure to garner some priceless buzz. The subtle all-over ruching of the fabric is flattering and adds just the right amount of dimension to the silhouette. Note the double zippers in front; ingenious detail, no? By placing the zippers in front, it not only distinguishes this LBD from all others, but the zippers’ silver lines create a slimming, and deceivingly, vertical silhouette that all women can appreciate. But beyond buzz, the clothes have to be true to their design–and this LBD mixes the perfect mix of fashion-forwardness with timeless elegance (the picture is deceiving as it’s backless!). And to make things sweeter? [Relatively] sensible prices that don’t treat shoppers like blind fools.
$830, available at Opening Ceremony in February 2011
