Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2011

I’m enamored by the new silhouette Karl Lagerfeld brought to the iconic Chanel tweed jacket: just a snippet of tailoring. Amazing how such a simple change in detail can speak volumes. Aside from the fact that the incomparable Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy opened and closed the show, respectively, the new dropped-waist silhouette–pair with mousy flat shoes and crystal-strewn T-shirts–stimulated. This was clearly a collection appeasing the burgeoning Chanel client. The show was just so fresh! Be it the “wet look” short skirt, crystal leggings or fresh-as-a-daisy camellias that served as punctuation points, it was positively a Cinderella-worthy fairytale moment–if Cinderella appreciated tweeds twinkled with crystals and pearls and feathers woven like a spider’s web.
