Even if Louis Vuitton had not so generously sponsored the premiere of “Somewhere” in Los Angeles Tuesday night, the film’s director, Sofia Coppola, would undoubtedly have worn a frock by Louis Vuitton (her bff is Marc Jacobs, after all). While the French fashion house isn’t known for its red carpet dazzlers, the flirty, individualistic style of Coppola is enough to pull off an elegant cocktail LBD with panache. The sequins instantly bump up the glamour quotient of the dress, while the clutch and simple wedge sandals keep Coppola’s aesthetic grounded. Also, note the side drawstring at the waist, which cinches her petite frame ever-so-delicately. The highly-acclaimed director knows what looks good on her: boatneck frame, dresses and skirts cut just above the knee and a body-grazing, not hugging, silhouette. A simple makeup palette and loosely tossed hair round out the overall natural look.
