Along with Orlando Pita, Guido Palau is the most affable and talented celebrity/fashion hairstylist I’ve ever met. Even amidst the chaos of leading the hair team at Marc Jacobs’ show he took the time to go through his looks with me back in February of 2009 when I first met him…such a sweet man! Now the master and Redken Creative Consultant is in Paris creating the hair looks for some of fashion’s biggest names – among them, Nina Ricci. Though following in the footsteps of Olivier Theyskens must have been a daunting task, Peter Copping is doing a fabulous job (I highly recommend watching Sundance Channel’s “The Day Before Nina Ricci” to get insight into his design process). To complement Copping’s Spring/Summer collection, the hair and makeup team went for an Edwardian-meets-Seventies look, but done in a soft, feminine way.
Palau created a low, loose knot at the nape of the neck for a wearable and effortless look. Redken thickening lotion 06 body builder was the key product that Palau used. Jump for how-tos and for insight on the makeup look created by the lovely Pat McGrath!
To re-create the look that Paulo created:
– Spray hair with water to dampen
– Apply thickening lotion 06 body builder throughout hair and let dry naturally, bringing our hair’s natural texture
– Create a clean center part
– Pull hair into a low ponytail about 3 inches below the nape of the neck. Make sure hair covers the ears when you pull it back – this is what makes look Edwardian and highly representative of the 1970s.
– Since hair over the ears represents a more conservative era, pull a few pieces out away from the face
– With the ponytail, twist hair to the left to create a loose knot right at the nape of the neck
As for the face, famed makeup artist Pat McGrath bleached the models’ brows. She then applied a rosy red shade onto their lids and up to their brow bones and underneath their lower lash lines. Mascara and a rosy blush was then applied and the lips were kept bare.
I wish I could pull-off this makeup look without looking like dead woman walking! Would you dare go this rosy red?
Do you happen to know exactly which eyeshadow and blusher she used here?
