Kudos to Kate Hudson for having the chutzpah to take a risk and not resort to yet another boring LBD for a red carpet function. The actress turned up at Elle’s 17th-annual Women in Hollywood tribute in Prabal Gurung’s black stretch scuba sculpted dress and, in my opinion, really wowed the crowd. In a sea of simple and stylish–yet all safe–cocktail dresses, Hudson stood out for all the right reasons. This dress came straight off the budding designer’s recent Spring 2011 runway (shown in New York City about five weeks ago) so it is brand spankin’ new. I loved Prabal’s spring collection; my favorite pieces were, in fact, the ones that boasted this sculpted scuba technique. It’s highly stylistic and fashion forward but at the same time modern and bold. I love that Prabal gave it maximum impact with the asymmetrical shoulder boasting hand embroidered burnt plastic paillettes and Swarovski elements. Admittedly, this length isn’t easy to wear, but when you’ve got the body and smile of Kate Hudson, the world really is your oyster. Keeping the look cool and a ting more casual, Kate opted for a loose chignon and waves that toned the otherwise dramatic dress down a notch. Topping off the outfit? A pair of sexy black patent leather Brian Atwood Maniac pumps, natch.
The dress is beautiful and looks good on her. As for the “loose chignon” – looks like a total mess to me…
I dont like it, the neckline is strange esp in the close up. Makes her boobs look weird and lopsided, which is definitely NOT flattering
