Body conscious but with a twist, Giambattista Valli continued his use of round shoulders coupled with a 1960s silhouette we first saw for spring, but advanced it with a hint of the futuristic. This being Valli, oversized frothy gowns were expected, but there was none of that. Instead, he delivered a sharp collection of stiff tops and fitted pants and skirts in orange, black and white check made all the more modern thanks to precise placement of leopard. Did I mention there were shrunken tees and simple flat sandals? While there was certainly evening, that came in the form of beautifully draped chiffon gowns that harked back to Jean Dessès. All in all, it was the most youthful collection Valli’s shown–something which his front row of “IT” girls will undoubtedly appreciate come spring.
