Citing the inspiration of the 20th-century Belgian artist Jef Verheven, best known for his interpretations of light, color and landscape, as a starting point, Dries Van Noten sensuously captured a lightness in mood and spirit with a collection that was far ranging. A painterly effect was achieved on ombré prints thanks to a soft color palette that was printed onto white canvas and washed cottons. And helping transition the wearable collection, which emphasized seventies silhouettes with a menswear feel were soft sheens of iridescent sequins laid onto a shrunken cardigan jacket or embroidered onto a tuxedo jacket–both, at their base, great sportswear. The white shirtdress was seen here as well, beautifully tailored and tied. But what would a Dries collection be without elegant floral prints? This time they conjured orchids, iris, peonies and magnolia branches cast onto kimono-sleeve shift dresses and poncho capes. All in all, Dries designed a collection for the ideal handsome woman.
