That didn’t take long, now did it? Less than two weeks after it made its runway debut in Paris on Alber Elbaz’s Spring 2011 Lanvin runway as the opening look on Frida Gustavsson, budding fashion icon Blake Lively snagged it to wear to Spike TV’s “Scream 2010” Awards in L.A. over the weekend. Blake wore the entire look, from the chignon hairdo to the crystal and pearl insect brooch down to the natural studded leather and metal sandals, on the red carpet. This collection was a new direction for Alber; it was, in many ways, tougher and bolder and all about body-conscious sheaths that emphasized the athletic. Blake has a tall, lean and athletic build, so she clearly was suited to wear such a look–check out the majorly high slit on that beige long silk skirt. Although the runway look is certainly fashion-forward, the beige bodysuit/caramel leather harness combo works on Blake because it’s not so extreme. It’s probably a tad more dressed up than necessary for a Spike TV event (wouldn’t a second-skin Hervé Léger minidress have been better suited for the testosterone-heavy crowd?), but it’s nice that Blake believes in being overdressed than risk being underdressed.
