Tod’s has entered into a fabulous year-long collaboration with Teatro alla Scala, the home of opera and ballet in Italy, which was celebrated today with the unveiling of “An Italian Dream,” a film directed by Matthias Zentner. The short features 13 ballet dancers from La Scala performing in a piece choreographed by Gianluca Schiavoni. The young performers interpret through dance the multiple steps that take place in the process of making a Tod’s product.
“‘An Italian Dream’ marks the beginning of what I hope will be a long relationship,” said Tod’s Group president Diego Della Valle. “Teatro alla Scala are both passionately Italian and committed to keeping alive skills and traditions that lie at the heart of our culture, and that make the notion of ‘Made in Italy’ so unique. This film illustrates how artistry, attention to detail, commitment and creativity all combine to create something very special.”
The idea behind the partnership, whereby Tod’s has agreed to cover the costs of productions for one year, is rooted in both parties’ respect of craftsmanship and time-tested skills. At La Scala, every set and costume is created entirely by artisans in our theatre’s workshop, while the Della Valle family has been making accessories for three generations at its headquarters in the Marche region of Italy, the traditional home of Italian shoemaking.
