Calvin Klein Collection Spring 2011

While Francisco Costa’s mastery of minimalism is truly a work of art, the same must be said of the designer’s Calvin Klein Collection shoes. In my opinion highly underrated, the shoes are continuously streamlined and sleek but with an artistic edge. For spring, Costa showed four variations of a sandal: a polished calf anklet, a goat enclosed heel, a polished calf enclosed heel and a polished calf harness sandal. I love how simple and classy yet statement-making these shoes are. Unlike Louboutins or Nicholas Kirkwoods, these don’t scream “look at me.” In fact, they take a real connoisseur to realize their attention to detail and design. The way the thin leather straps skim the foot, the alternating color accents that break up the platform and sole and the way the heel is split into wood and clear pieces, are all intrinsically a part of the Calvin Klein ethos. Perhaps the best part? The shoes won’t wear you. Now that’s something you don’t hear everyday.
