The weather may be unseasonably cool in L.A. this summer, but you’d never know it looking at this terrific ensemble Maggie Gyllenhaal wore to celebrate her friend, Emma Thompson, receiving her Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The tousled hair immediately casts a more casual vibe–Academy Awards this is not–and the slingback thong flat sandals by Lanvin, whose dress she’s also wearing, creates that sensible boho vibe that Brooklynite Maggie is known for. At first glance the dress can look a bit sloppy; designer Alber Elbaz drapes his dresses using one solid piece of fabric–how it sits all depends on the wearer. The asymmetrical look of the dress, coupled with the halter neck and layers of ruching, is not an easy look to pull off. Not only does it add pounds, but taller women tend to look better in such diaphanous draping. Overall, I give it one thumb up for a solid day look. Lastly, is it just me, or does Maggie look a lot like Marion Cotillard in this photo?
