All I have to say is: thank goodness this shoe isn’t made of real wood. Can you imagine how heavy it would be? Martin Margiela may have long left his namesake company, but the design team that took over is clearly intent on issuing products influenced by his personal aesthetic. How else to explain a shoe that melds Lady Gaga craziness with the refinement of Mr. Margiela himself? Whatever the origins, the outcome is clear: this is one helluva statement shoe. It’s not a precariously-high heel, which I like, but the front design is a bit alien-like wouldn’t you say? It certainly has an elfish vibe to them and I don’t think most women would dare wear this out-there a design. The worst part? A squirrel might try to hump your foot.
MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA – 100MM PATENT WOOD PRINT PUMPS for $950
Totally SNOB, all the way. I love it.
And I have a somewhat wild guess about the explanation behind it… Tilt your head to the right–do you see a Dutch clog? (They’re the ones made entirely of wood!) I think the Maison decided that, if they were going to take on the clog trend, they’d rather see a Dutch than a Swedish Clog, seeing as thats the kind you’d find in Martin’s native Belgium! 😉
Even if that’s totally off, I still think this shoe is fantastic.
