A few months ago, when Furla hosted an evening of cocktails in Manhattan to preview four key fall handbag styles designed by newly-installed creative director Fabio Sasso, I was drawn to this bag. Known as the Tate shopper, it’s fashioned in quilted vintage leather with genuine astrakhan and shiny leather trim. It’s been awhile now since I’ve been impressed with a Furla bag design, but this one had me giving it a second look. Design wise, I was very impressed with how rich and luxe this bag looked in person. The leather is very supple, the bag is extremely roomy and the top unzips all the way to reveal an additional large pocket that goes all the way down the backside. It’s capacious without being too overtly utilitarian–and this bag has appeal for women of all ages. It’s both Greenwich and West Village at the same time! The top handle has a luggage-inspired look and in very soft to the touch. And can we talk about the price? When was the last time a quality handbag product that didn’t read “Made in China”–nevertheless one that marries leather with astrakhan and hardware–sell for under $1,000? I was very impressed by this bag–and hopefully, after checking it out for yourself, you will be too!
