For resort, Marc Jacobs presented a handbag assortment that seemed to hark back to his roots–when his clothes were as sweet as cotton candy (with complementary sorbet hues to boot). My initial attraction was to a collection of totes, day bags and clutches affixed with delightful resin flowers (price range: $795 to $1,595). I particularly loved the flower in a gorgeous jade green shade; they had a wit and whimsy to them without being vulgar. With Jacobs lightly touched upon a Mod moment with a few small bags, it was all about embellishment.
The raffia flower collection may come across as a bit strong for some women, but the good news here is that–and the same applies to the resin flowers–the appliqués are fully removable. Perfect to be worn as a brooch! Talk about maximum versatility! The chain strap collection, meanwhile, has a decidedly French savoir-faire to them–the thin chain straps infuse a nice lady-like element, but how practical–not to mention durable–will they be when chock full of belongings?
Last but not least was a shell collection that was undoubtedly the most precious of the entire lineup (price range: $1,095 to $1,595). The shells are each adorned with gem-like stones that clearly were not meant for tossing on a banquet. It’s a great nautical-esque accessory that evokes the spirit of resort without overwhelming.
