I wasn’t sold on Prada’s “see-through” bag collection for spring–and now I know why. By itself, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this Prada fumé plexi-and-white “spazzolato” leather bag that Malin Akerman was snapped toting at The Ivy in L.A. What is wrong, however, is the actresses’ wardrobe choice. It doesn’t match the idea behind this bag! But this is Bag Snob, so let’s get to what matters: the bag. As cute as it is–I do love the white leather handles–I can’t help but think of department store ladies who are made to carry see-through bags to make going through security easier as they arrive and leave from work. Should loss prevention tactics be applied to everyday handbags? If done well, like when Karl Lagerfeld remade the Classic 2.55 using clear plastic, then yes. But in this case, I’d advise to spend your money on another Prada bag. As a shoulder tote, this bag would’ve been a lot better. Do you see Hermès making a ready-to-wear transparent Kelly or Birkin? In handheld form, it’s a bit awkward. At least Malin tried, even matching her Prada bag with plexi transparent “Biarritz” sunglasses, also by Prada.
$1,350 for the bag and $210 for the glasses
