I don’t know whether to admire her confidence or shudder in horror: does the world need handbags designed with Lindsay Lohan’s stamp of approval? Either way, we’ll all soon find out as the girl who’s never met a party she didn’t love is introducing a 6126 collection of bags for the holiday season produced under a licensing deal with The California Bag Co. And judging by the sketch of one such bag–the Blaze bag made of black and nude snake embossed leather with napa trim and interlaced corset gusset detail–I won’t be recommending them anytime soon.
Thank goodness the prices for the leather bags are reasonable: ranging from $165 to $395. They will be sold alongside the 280-piece 6126 apparel collection (which rakes in $3 million in annual sales) in department stores and specialty boutiques with the hopes of attracting such blue-chip names like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s.
The collection stars three groups: Starlette, Glam-A-Go Go and Kitten With a Whip. Are you kidding? A total of 12 styles will be produced, including two wallets. It incorporates fabric trim, hardware and beads, as well as apparel-inspired details such as ruching and corset gusset treatments. The Monroe bag, part of the Starlette group, is the collection’s designated “It” bag, a satchel with a detachable strap that can be worn five ways.
Clearly Lohan thinks this bag collection will be a success. For spring 2011, she’s already given the green light to launch a diffusion handbag line called 7286 (named for her birthday) that will launch in Dillard’s nationwide. The bags will retail for less than $168, and clothing is also in the works. The brand’s plans for 2011 include swimwear, shoes and cosmetics.
