Just to be clear: this is not Jil Sander’s lower-priced line. Rather, Raf Simons, the label’s creative director, is launching what he calls a “more casual collection” to accompany his razor-sharp runway collection pieces. His inaugural collection for Spring 2011, is a meld of prints, color and California–three words not typically used when describing the Jil aesthetic. Translated into real life for the modern woman, that means bold magenta, orange and kelly green are integrated among the label’s go-to neutrals– khaki, black, white and, of course, navy–along with a few graphic stripes. There’s also a charming beachy print based on the work of 17th-century artist Abraham Mignon. As with all things Jil, you can expect clean, subdued lines juxtaposed against crisp white shirtdresses and bias cut jersey T-shirts–all paired with canvas oxfords and gladiator sandals. While the prices are significantly lower than the main collection–$125 for a T-shirt to $1,000 for a dress or trenchcoat–the emphasis on light weight and sport-cum-utility is as present and on the mind as ever.
the white dress is cute, but that`s it
