Andre Leon Talley is presenting his namesake’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Diane von Furstenberg at the Savannah College of Art and Design tonight. He also curated an exhibit, Journey of a Dress, at the Gutstein Gallery. He takes us on a journey of the wrap dress along with Diane’s achievements. In each installation, he mixes vintage with current to show the timelessness of this universal design. In the first picture here, you can see the first wrap dress ever made, the twig dress in green. To the right is a black and white geometric print that Michelle Obama wore in a family portrait. And I actually have the long black gown with lace shoulders on the left! There are also portraits through the years, like the one here – I LOVE this photo, I am going to try to blow it up and put it in my room!! Diane is truly a legend and has defined modern fashion for generations. Congratulations, I am looking forward to seeing her receive this much deserved award. There will also be a fashion show for SCAD students, which will be streamed live tonight at 8pm ET, click here to view (it will be up for a few weeks).
