I recently went to an LVMH event to get a whiff of some of their latest fragrance launches. Among the stand-outs were Guerlain’s Tonka Imperiale, Givenchy’s Ange ou Demon Le Secret, and Pucci’s trio of Vivara scents (the Pucci ones are not new launches, but I wasn’t aware that Pucci made fragrances so I figured it was worth sharing). Tonka Imperiale ($235, 75ml) is the seventh fragrance in the L’Art et la Matiere collection and it’s a woody oriental composed around the tonka bean (which smells very much like almond paste). The fragrance notes are —
Top notes: Rosemary, Bergamot, Bitter Almond
Middle notes: Tonka Bean, Light Tobacco, Jasmine
Bottom notes: Incense, Cedar Wood, Pine
Even though it’s based on the tonka bean, the almond note is subtle and the fragrance is alluring making it wonderful for night-time. Jump for more!
Givenchy’s Ange ou Demon Le Secret is a lighter, less aggressive version of the original Ange ou Demon. It works well as a day-time fragrance and even though it’s described as fruity-floral, I didn’t get that many fruity notes (which is a good thing…). Loving the subtle hints of Patchouli and White Musk. The fragrance was created around jasmine tea and the notes include —
Top notes: Italian Winter Lemon, Cranberry, Green Tea Leaves
Middle notes: Sambac Jasmine, White Peony, Water Flowers
Bottom notes: Blond Woods, Patchouli, White Musk
