Delicate simplicity has become terribly underrated in the frenzy that is the accessories market. That said, I was refreshed to see that Roger Vivier’s Carla bag–first seen on the arm of its namesake First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy–has made its way from the French brand’s outré-expensive couture line into the ready-to-wear collection for spring. Ladies, universal appeal this bag does not have (it gravitates toward a professional, elegant woman–age notwithstanding) but those who do find themselves armed with this framed bag will undoubtedly want to channel a modern version of Jackie-O and her trademark pillbox hats. This bag, available in small and large sizes, won’t fit much (its dainty leather strap practically guarantees that), but then again, with your driver in tow–and women who carry this bag almost always will–you won’t need to. I’m particularly attracted to the bag’s slim buckle on the front–a quintessential emblem of the brand–while in back, the profile of the buckle appears subliminal (sewn in, one could say). Available in a wild range of textures, from uber-chic pony skin & crocodile to garnet-red washed leather or black patent, go ahead and pick a color: your Prince Charming awaits.
Small: $1,725-$13,100; Large: $2,525-$13,100, available at Roger Vivier boutiques
I love structured bags, but totally not feeling this one. Something about the sharp metallic corners just scream “crap i knicked my sweater again” to me…
Let me say your esthetic is WAY off base on this one. It screams cheap reproduction (although not which is even more sinful) and nothing is fashion forward/contemporary about this. The price tag is even more of an insult and totally is not justified. This is a classic SLOB…Perhaps speaking to Tina would be a good idea before posting.
I see this bag as a tame classic bag; something that does not raise high nor low feelings. BUT- Where are all the fabulous bags this site used to show us before ? For many, many months only the same few brands appear. Soon I feel like quitting to visit this site.
I agree that simplicity is rare, amidst all the bags that has tons of zips, rivets, patchwork etc to find a bag is clean and pure is tough.
it seems that these days designers are trying to outdo each other on how much can they put on a bag that they forget to keep it clean. i am not super loving the bag but i do appreciate the simple lines the minimal metal hardware keep it up to date without being overdone.
The buckle in the front is bothering me. It’s either too thin or just not needed. Throws off the proportion of the bag. Plus it just looks like an afterthought.
Perfect for Carla Bruni a classless skank that the fashion world is trying to elevate to Jackie O status. Carla is so beneath Jackie that it is insulting to compare the two.
