Malandrino describes this collection as “primal” which is the perfect word for it. It’s what really chic women living in caves on Manhattan would wear. But in a good way. This is a huge departure for Malandrino, her client base wants fluid shapes in colorful florals, with maybe a tiger print here and there but not fur and leather and fringes. It is definitely edgy if that is the path she wants to veer towards. There are wearable pieces, soft pleated silk dresses with leather worked in and knits with sequin appliqué that her regulars look for. There are feminine elements like assymetical draped dresses and gowns. The shoes, other than a firery hot stingray double platform pump, are very masculine Genghis Khan warrior gear. Perhaps for the warrior princess in all of us.
