DIY Fendi Baguette

Some pictures I snapped at the Limited Edition Experiences space in Miami

I recently went to Miami for Design Miami/Art Basel and had the chance to get a sneak preview of the Limited Edition Experiences which was basically a limited edition pop-up space where high-end brands (Christopher Ross, Cynthia Rowley, Gucci…) came and sold special pieces for a limited time in conjunction with Design Miami in the Miami Design District. One of the biggest draws at the event was Fendi where, among many other things (including a fur-lined guitar!), they were selling Fendi Baguette Mezzo Punto DIY Bags. For around $1,400 you could buy a kit and knit your own design on a Baguette! I’m a big DIY fan and am still kicking myself in the butt for not snapping-up a pair of DIY Ray Bans, but this kit seems like a lot of work! Plus it’s not the kind of thing where no matter what you do you’ll get a cool result (Fendi came-out with a similar idea about a year ago), so I would opt to stick with ready-made bags given my lack of artistic talent. I do wish the kit wasn’t so pricey though because I have a few friends that I would have loved to gift this to:(

  1. I also had the pleasure of visiting this exhibit. And I do needlepoint. But I’m a perfectionist and for that kind of money, I’d rather buy a handbag ready-made. However, I DID enjoy and buy 2 Christopher Ross belts. Now that was fun!

  2. Those Christopher Ross belt buckles are amazing..did you know they can double as door knobs too!?? Which ones did you get?

  3. I love this idea, it’s so adorable. My sewing skills however being rather poor I don’t think i’d attempt to DIY it for that price, but if it was a couple hundred cheaper and I was magic with a needle I’d certainly give it a go.

  4. People who splurge on designer bags don’t want to run the chance that someone else will have the same one — this guarantees something unique. I’d love to see a gallery of completed ones. Is anyone else thinking celebrity auction?
