A few weeks ago I went to Bilbao to see the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim museum — absolutely stunning! The man is a genius and if you’re ever in Bilabo’s vicinity it’s definitely worth checking-out. Gehry is one of the few living architecture superstars (though he’s already 80 years old!), and has been able to translate his talents into everything from building design and furniture, to vases and jewelry. He has a whole line of home accessories and jewlery at Tiffany that’s heavily inspired by fish. Fish often recur in Gehry’s work and there’s actually a room dedicated to the animal in the Bilbao Guggenheim. When asked why he finds fish so inspiring Gehry noted–
“Three hundred million years before man was fish….if you gotta go back, and you’re insecure about going forward…go back three hundred million years ago. Why are you stopping at the Greeks? So I started drawing fish in my sketchbook, and then I started to realize that there was something in it.”
Love it! Gehry’s Flux Cuff ($925) is my personal fave in the collection. Check-out the entire line by clicking here.
