My Little Steamer

mylittlesteamer.jpg

I don’t know how to iron, I actually make things worse by adding creases to it. I am ashamed to admit that because of this inadequacy, I sometimes leave the house looking a bit frumpled. And besides, some things like silk and thin cashmere, can’t even be ironed. I bought a giant stand up steamer years ago, but who has the time to hook that thing up in the morning when you’re already running late? Of course, I just send everything to the dry cleaner, only to leave it there for a month because I keep forgetting to pick it up. OK, my life isn’t as disorganized as I’m making it sound, but if I can just get my clothes to be nicely pressed, it would make a huge difference. The My Little Steamer is from Joy Mangano who made the huggable hangers that we love so much. She knows how to make a girl’s life easier. I have other small steamers but none of them work, they don’t give off enough steam to do anything, you’re better off hanging it in the shower which of course does nothing. This is also super lightweight and tiny, so you can pack this when traveling!! It comes in a bunch of cute colors, too. There are attachments for difference uses, like ones to get in between buttons on a button up shirt. This is a total must have!! At HSN for $34.95 (this model has a retractable cord).

  1. I have several friends that say they can’t iron. Where is the complication to ironing? Here’s a suggestion for you Kelly: practice a bit on your kids clothes. Little girls often have cotton dresses that look so much prettier when ironed. A button down shirt or a polo on a boy looks far sharper when pressed. If you get some little creases spray water on them with a spray water bottle and redo. With ironing, practice kind of makes perfect. And by the way, even silk and thin cashmere can be ironed, just at lower temperatures. For cashmere I use a thin infants spit-up cloth between the cashmere and the iron. Comes out perfect.

    Good luck!
