My best friend’s brother used to be business partners with Olivia Palermo’s ex-boyfriend so I’ve heard a lot of gossip tales about her all of which point to her not being the nicest of people (something anyone who watched The City probably knows).
I’ve seen her a few times out and about in NYC and her possible-catty/bitchy-ness aside she always looks gorgeous — like she spent 5 hours in hair and makeup — but still gorgeous! I love her fashion sense and her ability to mix high and low. In the picture to the left she is wearing a Topshop jacket and shoes (mental note: must fit in trip to Topshop ASAP!), which she paired with a Zara clutch.
Loving this clutch especially with so many people being wary of spending big bucks on a YSL or Alexander Wang studded bag, I think this is a wonderful alternative. It wasn’t until last season that I started turning to Zara for bags and shoes, they’ve really turned around their accessories division and you can find tons of great items for under $150. I actually made a comment to one of the sales people about how their offerings have gotten so much better these last few months and she told me they did an overhaul in their design team. What do you think about Zara bags? Snob or Slob?

I have always loved Bagsnob and I really don’t think Zara warrants a mention on this great website. Zara is full of knockoffs and most of the construction is shoddy and shocking. Why anything… ANYTHING from there would be snob-worthy is beyond me; even for the sake of blogging for those who are frugal. While this bag may be an original design (not too bad but not that great either), I believe that Bagsnob should stick to promoting labels which have a good heritage and are actually focused on the creation of art apart from getting profits (which are of course important and very necessary).
That being said, in judging this blog post, I would like to clarify that blogging about Zara is not wrong, but what I have simply deemed as a bad move. It’s like blogging about something from Forever21 without acknowledging their history of stealing others’ designs.
And before anyone says anything (that is if anyone deigns this comment worthy of response), I will readily admit that I am an insufferable elitist 🙂

I always interpreted snob-worthy to be more about design and quality than about pricing. If that were the case, the Bag Snobs should stick to blogging only about Hermés. Zara does indulge in a bit of “inspired” designing, but their bags are usually quite retooled and not blatant knockoffs. They attempt to brings trends to the masses, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. To compare them to Forever 21 is harsh and not an accurate comparison. This particular clutch is a great interpretation of the rocker chic trend, and reasonably priced for those that cannot afford to spend thousands.
Sharon, very good job on the post. It’s refreshing to hear from other points of view on Bag Snob. Not all the world is populated by “elitists”. We like to hear about well designed bags that aren’t going to land you in the poor house. I swear that sometimes the comments I read on this site are downright embarrassing. You can be a “Bag Snob” without being a snob in general. That is never a quality worthy of attaining.
SLOB…WAY TOO MANY STUDS! Side note – Olivia’s makeup was so heavy on The City!
Margaret – dramatic much?
“Zara does indulge in a bit of “inspired” designing”
Thank you for your affirmation. You are so clever.
Thank you so much for the compliment. Being clever is definitely an endeavor worth embarking on.
Looked at this in their shop in Prague. Lovely but only the front panel pieces are leather. The rest is poly and nasty smelling. No thanks.
Thanks once again for affirming what was steeped in sarcasm. So thank you for being so stupid.
Anyway this will be my last comment. Unlike you I am not a peasant 🙂

Without making reference to the other silly comments above.
The bag is perfect for the Frugal snob. A good trendy style at a great price point PERIOD. It is well executed and will work for many girls who want to incorporate some “bad ass” in their wardrobe without spending stupid money, recession or not.
Side Note: I work in Quality Control and I get exposure to hundreds of brands from all over the world.
1. Bad quality exists both in China & Italy
2. Price point is irrelevant, I see what it costs to make Fendi bags and I also see what it costs to make Gryson bags.
3. Bag snob should continue to represent the gamut of designers that offer great items which will allow “us” the consumer to make our buying decisions. The selections posted here should not be based on price.
“That’s all” – Miranda Priestly, “The Devil Wears Prada”
I’m fully aware your comments were sarcastic. Unlike you, I don’t find it necessary to call someone stupid. The fact that you do speaks volumes about your character. I’m not quite getting why you’re assuming someone that likes this clutch is a “peasant”. I own over 25 designer bags and have invested over $50,000 in collecting them over the years. I’ve never felt the need to share that information or post it anywhere because I find it irrelevant and snobbish, but I’m doing so to prove a point, Margaret. I’m neither stupid not a peasant (if I understand the way in which you’re using the word correctly).
I think we can all comment on each others opinions without resorting to blatant insults meant to demean others. If being rude to other people makes you feel like a better person, then go right ahead and continue to do so. In the end, all you’ve proven to be is, in fact, an elitist (to use your own word) and quite rude.
Could not have said it better myself, thank you Miranda Priestly.
We had reservations about adding another Bag Snob writer but when we found Sharon we knew she was perfect. She is young and will give a fresh perspective to the site. Hope you all continue to enjoy her reviews!
