What a difference lip color can make! OK so nude and deep red/crimson are on totally opposite ends of the spectrum and I myself prefer just a sheer gloss, but seeing these images side-by-side I’m still surprised at how much lip color can effect ones overall look. Surprisingly the only star above that I think looks better with a deep red lip is Cameron Diaz — you’d think that with her laid-back Cali image I’d like her better with nude. For the most part crimson lips look too “done-up” for me and I think that they can even, on certain people and depending on the outfit (ahem Leighton Meester in that harlequin-esque outfit at the CDFA Awards), look clownish. What do you prefer, nude or deep red lips?
Personally I think Diaz is the least flattered by the deep red lip… I thought she looked (as you put it) “clownish.” I think the woman in the bottom right (whoever she is) wears the red lip best.
…I don’t really like the red lip thing to begin with, though.
Nude
Everyone looks elegant in a red tone that complements their skin. Thank goodness for makeup artist’s pointing the stars in the right direction!

Every red I’ve ever seen looks clownish & as if the wearer is a fashion victim. Not really nude but a pinky nude looks much better. Not more casual just not like a clown or a little girl playing to please someone else…
I have olive skin and have absolutely NEVER looked good in red lipstick. As I have grown older, I am certain that lighter tones add to a more youthful look. I am glad that there are so many neutral colors to choose from these days.
