Last week in New York City, Coralie Charriol Paul held a small trunk show debuting her latest collection of handbags at a friend’s Fifth Avenue apartment on the Upper East Side. Coralie, who is the creative director of both jewelry and handbags for the Swiss luxury goods company her father Philippe Charriol founded, is also a leading light on the New York social circuit and a mother of two young children. She says she took over designing Charriol handbags seven years ago (turning out two collections per year, most years) because she wanted to adapt the bags to her life, which is both glamorous and busy. “They’re practical. You’re life fits in it,” she says of her designs.

My favorite from her latest Constellation collection is the Cancer (above), which is constructed out of buttery soft black leather and features gold hardware; the Taurus, in tan nylon with snake trimmings, comes a close second. The best part about her bags is that you won’t see them on anyone else, and at $500 to $1000 they are well priced given the quality of the craftsmanship and materials.
