I Did My Chores – Parent Aide

brightproducts_chores.jpg

Are you tired of your own voice when asking your tot to do “chores”? I don’t even mean actual chores like washing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning windows and mopping the floor. Just simple basics, all time favorites, like “Put away your toys!”, “Pick up your clothes” and “Go brush your teeth”. I saw this “I Did My Chores” chart and thought, what the heck, let’s give it a try, worth 13 bucks for a shot at sanity. I explained how this works to my 4 year old tot and let me tell you, do not underestimate their need for structure! And take advantage of it!! There are stickers for different chores that you stick on the colored tags, each indicating the time of day they need to do them, morning, noon or night and an extra one for weekly chores. The appropriateness of chores range from ages 4-8 (there is one for clean the garage and basement which we will save when she’s 16). This gives her very specific tasks with well defined expectations. It comes with tokens for rewards that she called money but I made sure she understood it was “points” and not money. Once she gets a 5 points, she can watch one show on TV, this limits the TV watching and gets her off the sofa to do more chores if she wants more TV. This also teaches math, there are red tokens that I said were 5 points and the green are worth 1. She knows that 1 red and 1 green equals 6 points. There are so many personal touches you can add to this, the reward being the most obvious but the communication and way you interact with your tot using this aide can be a very nice bonding opportunity. We’ll see how it goes after the novelty fades but for now, she is ultra excited to get her chores done! It comes with blank sticker for you to download more chores or you can print your own to fully customize. The bear design is way cuter than the monkey. I Did My Chores Chart at Amazon for $12.99.
