I had the honor of hosting a baby shower for two of my dearest friends. It was a total blast organizing and putting everything together from decorations to cake to game prizes. And of course, everything had to be up to Snob standards with my name behind it 😉 They knew they are having a boy and right away I knew the shower had to be really beautiful so the mom to be can get her fair shake of girly things! The colors were green and pink for the co-ed shower, which I highly recommend. Why should girls have all the fun? Instead of traditional baby shower games, we had a sippy cup drinking contest and a “guess the gift basket value” game that did not involve sitting down with pen and paper that the boys would hate (I actually am not in love with those games either). Everyone had a super good time but most importantly, the parents to be had a wonderfully memorable celebration.
SHOWER DECORATIONS
I have to admit, I stole the clothesline idea from InStyle magazine. It is a easy way to give an instant baby shower look with items that will be used after the party is over. You can use all onesies in different colors but I just hung up gifts I was going to give the baby anyways – two birds with one stone!
INVITATIONS AND THANK YOU CARDS
I ordered everything from Tiny Prints who have the best selection of quality custom stationery at really great prices. I also ordered coordinating Thank You cards with return labels. I asked the guests to fill out their own names and addresses to save the busy and tired mom and dad some precious time. Invites were $31 for a set of 25, Thank You cards are $29.75 for a set of 25 and return labels are $9 for 24.
THE CAKE
FAVORS
Since I was going there with the lanterns, I decided to make everything a Chinese theme. The favors were chocolate covered fortune cookies with custom printed fortunes packed in a Chinese take out box with a custom printed sticker label with honoree’s name and date. The funnest part was coming up with the custom printed fortune! Everything was ordered from Beau Coup. Fortune Cookies are $1.65 each and $35.00 typesetting charge for each custom printed fortune. Takeout boxes are $5.10 for a set of 6. Two fortune cookies fit in each box. Personalized labels are $7 per sheet, but prices depend on the various sizes, styles and shapes of the labels.
GAME PRIZES
The winner of the drinking game won a beauty package with the entire collection of Clinique Mascaras as well as Philosophy’s Best Sellers. It was a straight up drinking contest – guests got to choose a beverage of their choice to be poured in a sippy cup (including of the alcoholic variety if they so choose!). I also offered a bottle of scotch in case a boy won but my good friend Joy took home the Macallan 25 Year Scotch!
