One of the great priveledge of the week is always Oscar de la Renta. It is a fantastical experience of luxury and beauty and this season was no different. Throughout the week, we start to see trends form – shortsleeve jackets, one shoulder, the 80’s, leopard print, economically “gentle” – and it is always interesting to see how someone like Oscar will translate these trends into classics. One of the first looks was a long fur vest that was young, hip but undeniably uptown stylish – but it was Nutria and not something like sable. It is good to know that even Oscar is looking out for our bank accounts but of course without compromising our outer appearance. The combination of deep rich bright vibrant colors shown together is all it took to get me out of any funk I was in from being reminded of financial distress. And with the one shoulder asymmetrical neckline, it was right on point with this season’s aesthetics but still staying true to his clientele. It was when the leopard print asymmetrical gown came down that I became completely giddy by his daring to do something that is so off course in a time that would be prudent to stick to the same.
It’s good to mix things up even if just for the runway – even the
satin banded dress was a bit edgy and the overly dramatic shoulders of
the orange taffeta dress made me think of Joan Collins but much
different than the Joan Jett references of other shows. The finale of
princess like ball gowns can put a smile on the biggest grump’s face
but I was already giddy so I actually stood up to clap! Hooray for
being fabulously blind to our woes and intuitive to our sense of
fantasy and yes, hope.
I’m loving that rich, purple colour. It’s been in so many collections. Oh, and that bag in the first picture looks very intriguing.
