I was moved by the CNN presentation of their “2008 Heroes” and I thought it only appropriate to start the new year by allowing ourselves to reflect on the other children in our lives, those that desperately need our help. As we have all experienced, once you become a mother, you are a mother to all. And what could be a better gift than to give hope and a future to a child? Isn’t that what we strive for for our own tots? 10,000 Girls is an organization founded by Viola Vaughn, an American grandmother, who moved to Senegal to start a program to educate girls to survive and support themselves. One of the entrepreneurial projects is the making and selling of these dolls. All are made by hand and each are specially made once you make the order. They are $125 each or $200 for a girl and boy doll. You can also contribute with a straight donation to 10,000 Girls. For me, it is a great way to teach my girls about the world, humanity and compassion.
