I have no idea what I am looking at; it could be anything from a buffalo (its name), a weepy elephant, or a sheep dog. What I do know, however, is that it’s a total waste of good python skin. But I am a firm believer in accentuating the positive so instead of griping about what I hate about it, I am going to focus on what I like about this python bag from Carlos Falchi and how I’d change what I don’t like. As my hubby loves to say, “don’t be a part of the problem, be a part of the solution”.
Let’s start with the python skin, which is gorgeous, as Falchi is known for supple exotic leathers. I also like the general outline and shape of the bag. The metallic washed treatment is of course fab but the ruching in the front with the tie is so distracting it’s all I can look at. Now if we could just untie the string, trim about 3 inches from each side and just let the flap be a simple flap, it’d have a shot of being a cute bag. This actually gives me an idea for an art project for my son, I can tie a string through a piece of leather and call it a buffalo, he’ll be so entertained! $2,850 at Neiman Marcus.
What do you think? Snob or Slob?
SLOB
and it looks like a weeping elephant.
lol, funny
Love the python, Love the color, but def a weeping elephant.
SLOB!!
This bag is scary. It looks like some sort of alien off of Star Trek.
I agree with Jessica. This bag is a scary monster.
SLOB!
Hahaha this is like I rorschach test for bag lovers! I say slob, and I say it looks like something female and x-rated. Goes to show what’s on my brain …
OMG
You are right! That is weird! It is a scary looking thing
Oh my. Now this looks really bad. Just wondering why this bag ever was made.
I would like to see it being carried, maybe it looks better hanging from the shoulder…but I don’t think anyone is going to buy it to show us are they? lol…
if it STILL looks like a bottom-feeding sting ray on your arm, then SLOB!
lol B! definitely a slob!
Hi James…. 🙂
Slob. Definitely the Elephant look 🙂 Was it ever fashionable?
Great, now that is all I see when I look at it. Anyway, slob.
It’s twenty times better than that Donna Karan atrocity.
C’mon girls, if it had the same price tag and was Chanel or LV (or Marc Jacobs), people wouldn’t think ‘slob’.
i think it resembles the predator…and neither snob or slob but
a blob…chancey survivalist…
For me to like or love a bag has nothing to do with it saying “Chanel” or “LV” if it’s ugly then it’s ugly! no matter who the designer is…I own Carlos Falchi bags, so really again, it has nothing do to with the name behind the label…(Im sure I am speaking for a lot of us on this blog)
i can’t barely look at it myself it’s really quite ugly and scary. to think that a python gave up its life to look like a weepy elephant!!
I don’t know if this bag is snob or slob, but I know that I love it, it’s so elegant and fashion. I really like it.
I’m just making an observation here B. Rarely do I see a Chanel or LV bag featuring in the ‘snob or slob’ category of late, and they’re not immune from having some questionable bags. Even Karl Lagerfeld has been filmed discussing the ‘stupid’ concept of a clutch bag, saying that the best idea is a ‘simple and stupid’ idea.
I understand… (You’re right) 🙂 some people think hey it’s a “Chanel” so therefore it’s a nice bag where in fact it may just be an ugly Chanel..(not that I’ve come across any ugly Chanel bags) lol
for SOME reason it reminds me of something i saw in one of
the Star Wars flicks…whatever it is, it can’t be good…
Trust me, Chanel and LV are not immune. We just have a harder time finding their photos online. But when we find it– they get the same treatment as all hideous bags do here 🙂
You’ve just reminded me to check my Chanel look book that’s been sitting on my desk all week.
Hate it, slob.
The first thing that crossed my mind when i saw the picture before reading through the entry is that whatever it is, it looks very much like an elephant’s behind. Again, not sure what the design concept is behind this bag, but there’s just too much python skin. Not really feeling it.
I also thought I should have this bag, but stopped, and for the very reason you stated.
The flap is just too “lost alot of weight and the skin hasn’t shrunk yet”
And so you identified my problem with the bag, and that’s why you are good at your job!
Thanks for everything always.
Tina, Falchi has been making this style since the late 70’s early 80’s?? not sure exactly, but a very long time. This may not be exact in every way, but it is a classic for him and one of his signature looks. If you look into his bio, he is a very interesting man.I love classics and love this bag.
This is one of Carlos Falchi’s signature looks. He has been making a variation of this bag since the early 80’s. I believe the earliest version had a long strap. This designer has done bags for many celebrities and notables. Please read his biography. He is very interesting and very respected.
Anastasia, you obviously don’t follow this site regularly. I have seen Kelly and Tina bash designers they usually love- Chanel, Bottega Veneta, etc.- if those designers produce something atrocious. There is no bag discrimination. And for me personally, if I think a bag is ugly, it’s ugly, regardless of label! Chanel just happens to have more hit bags than miss, which is why they are CHANEL.
This is a classic Falchi design, as the monogram is to Vuitton, as the quilted stitch is to Chanel. The bag looks much better when carried. The amount of python and the metallic treatment is divine.
That’s true, there are few fugly Chanels out there, but I have to admit I do experience some sort of sadistic pleasure when I spot a fugly Chanel. I’m still trying to recover from the LV bag that was featured in the Sex and the City film. Where I live, the bag that Jennifer Hudson’s character received as a gift from Carrie, retails for around seven and a half thousand dollars (after US currency conversion), and I think ‘what the?’ Sometimes I think the ideal ‘it’ bag is the bag that a woman can afford, that works well with more than one outfit (during the working week).
Its a gorgeous bag. Sometimes you need a show stopper accessories to take your outfit to that next level.
How many of these will you see copied on canal street well?
Definitely worth it weep elephant or not to me!
Its ok…not as bad as the Bottegas…the problem is the mettalic python…
I actually like the weird draping…
Like it or not it’s Falchi’s signature bag of the early 80’s that put him on the map. I’m stunned that with your enormous knowledge on bags you don’t know this one. That said, I never understood its cult status.
As a ‘product whore’ of the 80’s, I remember this bag well. As stated about, this is one of the bags that gave CF ‘cult’ status. Every girl & mom had to have Carlos Falchi & Il Bisonte bags on Long Island in the 80’s. It was simply the bag of the moment. Then of course after the 80’s the lire dropped in value and Carlos Falchi, Gali, Fiorrucci, Missoni, Moschino, etc (all major Italian designer labels) all bottomed out and they were no more in the states. Then 20 years later, Carlos re-emerges .. with the SAME bag that made him famous some 20 years ago! I think it’s GENIUS! Why not bring back what made you a staple of ‘those in the know’ in his ‘hey-day’?
