Interview with Saada’s Mina Ferguson

of=50,590,44.jpgThough I live a hop, skip, and a jump away from all the Bees (Bendel’s, Barney’s, Bergdorf’s, Bloomie’s…), there is a lack in cute boutiques in my Upper East Side area. Luckily, I can always relay on Saada — they not only have a carefully curated selection of finds, but you can literally stop-in every single day of the week and they’ll have something new in stock! I had the chance to chat with Mina Ferguson who is the owner and buyer for the boutique and she had some interesting insight including a new find Eryn Brinie whom Ferguson calls the Marc Jacobs of Korea! See below for some more picks and tips:)

What do you consider fashion must-haves for women?

High wasted pencil skirts, wide leg trousers.

Any fall/winter trends you’re super-excited for?

Belted coats.

Any fall/winter trends you hope don’t catch on?

Anything with fringes. I’ve seen boots, bags, clothing…it can look outdated if you don’t pick the right item and match it with the right styles.

Do you have any go-to designers?

Kanvas is one of our favorite. More after the Jump!

Any up-and-coming designers that people might not know that you think are fab?

Eryn Brinie. She is the Marc Jacobs of Korea.

Any celebs you think have great style?

Lauryn Hill. I always loved her fashion forward taste in clothes.

Any that need a style makeover?

Fergie from Black Eye Peas.

What are some of your favorite pieces in your boutique right now?

A coat by Plastic Island — it’s a belted coat — fab.

I love the bold jewelry you stock! Any tips on how to pull-off wearing big, bold baubles?

If you are doing a chunky ring, no other jewelry on that hand. Keep it minimal.

Any common fashion mistake that you often see women make?

Over doing it. If you have a focal point, let there be no other to take away from that focal point.

Saada is located at 1159 Second Ave., New York, at 61st Street.
