Marc Jacobs Pink Ostrich Stam

stampinkostrich.jpgstamback.jpg

Marc Jacobs goes back to the classic Stam bag and updates it in luscious pink ostrich. Yes, not only am I saying something nice about MJ, I am saying I love this bag. You all know I am a sucker for pink, and pink ostrich– swoon! The new pleated front detail is funky and interesting but then you flip it around and presto, simple elegance. I’ve always liked the Stam but it was soooo heavy in quilted leather– now in ostrich, it is lightweight and did I say already it is fabulous? The only annoying thing is the price. For $200 more I can have the Bottega Noce ostrich with crocodile trim. And who in their right minds would choose MJ over Bottega? I will have to admire this piece of arm candy from afar. 1. there are many designers that are merely repeating classic designs. I guess no one can be like YSL or Chanel, but this bag, to me – irrespective of the pink (that I’m guessing is chosen to appeal to a younger market) – ages a woman. It’s the sort of bag that a grand dame would carry. At five thousand dollars? I’d add another three thousand and buy a Hermes. Five thousand is too much for any Marc Jacobs handbag.

  2. I saw this in a magazine a while back in purple oistrich and it looks gorgeous…but I agree it is very pricey for MJ! How much are Hermes Birkins in Oistrich these days think that is next on my hit list?!

  3. The price is just awful, but the bag looks really great! I love how he updated the chain strap as well – not that gold tacky chain chain link-y thing. This chain link looks a bit more delicate with the leather in the midst of it all. What a nice ostrich bag!!!

  4. You might be saying something nice about an MJ bag, but you still aren’t going to buy it. Therefore, this bag is not THAT fabulous… and there is no way I’d spend 5k for ANYTHING MJ. Sorry, ostrich is still too “cowboy belts and boots” for me. I’ll stick with the croc and python for exotics…

  5. I don’t like this pink at all. It’s a bit too reminiscent of Pepto-Bismol. Furthermore, I agree with Anastasia, it is a bag that would age a woman needlessly.

  6. Agreed. Ostrich is my most hated exotic. I can stomach croc occasionally, but ostrich creeps me out to the max. How weird that Pureblog commented on this on the same day… or maybe it’s weird that doesn’t happen more often? No matter, I’ll say here what I said there:

Ostrich reminds me of uncooked turkey skin – replete with feather holes. Blech. My grandfather has a farm, and he used to have turkeys. As a kid, I had to pluck them after they were beheaded anytime we went to visit the farm in October (Thanksgiving happen in october here, we prepared them in time for the TG farmer’s market). I *HATED* it and never wanted to go… For obvious reasons. Talk about gross. And that’s what this reminds me of.

But you know what? I wpould wear this if it were in plain leather cause I like evrything else about it… Even the “pepto bismol” colour. 😀

  7. I agree with you about the price. I picked up my BV Ostrich bag on Sunday. It is gorgeous. I don’t mind paying the price for BV because of their workmanship. Did you receive your bag yet???

  8. i love MJ, can’t help it. this is fabulous but have to agree it is way too expensive. bottega is a much better choice!

  9. I’ve always loved the Stam bag. (I own it in black) it’s the only MJ bag I own. Come to think of it, I haven’t carried it in a couple of year’s, (SO many bags, SO little time)

I love this pink ostrich number, but I must agree with everyone, 5g’s is way to much for this bag!!

  10. I do love this although the price is steep for mj.. it’s reminiscent of the pink ostrich speedy bag you had written about, but the pleats and chain make it different and a little younger.

  11. I always have liked the look of ostrich, but my husband thinks it is nasty too! I love the look of croc but the only croc exotic I have felt is Nancy Gonzalez but I wasn’t really impressed. I haven’t seen an hermes exotic, but I’m sure that could change my mind. Oh well…5000 dollars is WAY too much for this and I did like the LV pink ostrich speedy. Oh well, BV ostrich bag wins. But if I was in that price range for a bag, I would just put myself on the wait list for a birkin. why spend 5 when you can spend 8?

  12. Lovely, but too expensive for anything from Marc Jacobs.

Although that seems to be a somewhat expired statement, seeing how LV cannot seem to get any less overpriced.

    I’m bitching, sorry.

Love the bag, but its overpriced.

  13. It is overpriced, MJ is not a brand that one should invest in. Knock off $1,500 to $2000 (which they will when this ends up in sale he he) and then go ahead and buy it.

  14. speak for yourself, lina. i invest in mj and i’m pretty darn happy about it, but since i have your permission now to buy the ostrich stam once it goes on sale, i’ll keep that in mind. wait, but didn’t you just say i shouldn’t be investing in mj? make a point and stick to it, will you? thanks.

  15. Darlings, let’s stay polite, shall we?

As for the reference to the LV speedy in pink ostrich, this is probably from the same skin and same batch 😉 Afterall, Marc did design that one, too.

I just wonder how LV feels about him putting one out so similar at half the cost? Must shoot email to LV….

  16. Tina:

I read your blog EVERYDAY…sometimes more than once a day. I don’t understand why I ask questions and they are not answered?? You responded to postings after I asked you the same question twice. If you are not interested in answering my questions, can you please let me know and I will read your blog, but no longer ask you questions. Thanks.

  17. Regardless of the fact that I happen to like ostrich and pink, I just wanted to comment that only loving or hating an item because of it’s brand unnecessarily ages a person as well. Being open to designs can broaden your understanding of fashion and creativity!! I can understand being brand loyal.. but there are so many more designers than LV, Hermes, and YSL.. but..

I do love YSL.. call it duality!
