I have always been a fan of the deco period, not only am I building a new home with a 1920’s Parisian art deco flair, I collect vintage art deco jewelry (Fred Leighton has the best stock), and am on constant lookout for bags with a structured deco feel. I stayed in the Linley Suite at the Claridges during my trip to London– which was elegantly decorated in fabulous art deco decor by Viscount David Linley— and it made me want to move to London and live at the heavenly Claridges! But back to earth, I discovered the Maze clutch at the Smythson store on Rodeo 2 when Kelly and I had lunch at the Daily Grill (an institution in LA!). We had a glass of wine and went shopping, not so smart but oh so fun! She bought an adorable photo frame key ring for a friend while I checked out the jewelry boxes – so insanely fabulous I can not tell you how much I want one! Then I saw these Maze clutches, so clean in structure and simple in design it made me want to take it home. The suede contrast is lovely in its subtlety yet it makes the bag. There are 4 colors to choose from but I love the plummy version above right best– it’s a quick and inexpensive way to update your Fall wardrobe instantly in the very berry trend (and if you hold it upside down, it looks like a T monogram– made just for me! $975 at Smythson.com.
I´ll say it straight: These bags look ugly. After all the beautiful clutches we have seen here on this blog, well these look like bricks to me.
I would not call these ugly, they’re just not the norm hip it bag but rather they are timeless and elegant. I like the forest green.
The Daily Grill will have to check it out when I go to LA next year to pick up my sister wedding dress! I am not sure about the new Maze I still love the Nancy!! Did you see the bag version of the Maze what did you think?
I would love one of there large jewellery boxes very pricey though!!

Smythson jewelry boxes are so amazing! But pricey is right, have to agree with L! I think the maze clutch has potential. Not so sure about the maze bags though. the chocolate is my pleasure.
Hi tina not sure if you are still traveling but when you have a moment can you tell me if i can wear this with a scarf like the medor clutch? i need a purple clutch and this is a better price and more in my range butwould like to put it on my shoulder maybe with a hermes scarf. thank you and wait for your reply have a safe trip home.
Hey, Tina, had I known you wanted a Smythson Jewelry case, I would have sent one over! (I was giving three of mine away, as I have upgraded to their larger ‘deluxe’ jewelry boxes). Now, I am a bit bias to Smythson (as I’ve been a fan since childhood), and I personally want a Maze clutch, or all! In every colour! The luxury they exude is simply amazing, and their semi-flopsy style does not put me off at all (as opposed to some I’ve seen before). The simple clasp and, as you stated already, the Art Deco detailing (much like their Deco collection) is simply astounding. I still lust over my mother’s older Smythson handbags (mainly the Mayfair, Leighton and Berkely bags – so chic!), but this new rendition of a new-old classic is something I will surely pick-up on my next trip to New York City (which shall be soon. For opera!)
Oh chiffre, I would have taken the Smythson jewelry boxes off your hands, too! Smythson is totally addictive, I agree. You get true luxury with their leather products. Love the maze clutch, have you seen the yellow? I saw it on the site and am drawn to it.
I Love this clutch, Lottie, I also LOVE the Nancy, I have it in black and just ordered the purple, I can’t wait to get it.
The daily grill is YUM!! =)
