Love the colour, albeit looks failry dark in the picture above…do they have another shade of purple too…not necessarily in this style?
I am not very keen on the thick shoulder strap that has been tagged on with the metal loops, I undestand it will possibly make it more comfy on the shoulder but I don’t think the design is very chic? How thick is the shoulder section?

Hi Lottie, Chanel does make another purple bag, I saw it in the “The Book” from Neimans. I love that one more…I will find out the name and get back to you…(I thought of you when I saw it)
Tina-I agree with Lottie–the color is really dark, can’t tell its purple–But I like the shape and the leather going thru the chain.

Yep, loved the colour and leather for this but not too hot for the thick shoulder straps too. It’s the Lady Braid Flap.
Chanel also has the classic flap in purple as well. Very pretty too 🙂

I believe there were 3-4 different purple bag styles released in the pre-fall collection. There was the one pictured and a larger verison that has a “different” quilting pattern. There was also the classic bag released in regular and jumbo. I bought the jumbo. I think the purple on the classic looks lighter, perhaps it was not distressed. Everytime I use mine people stop me and compliment the color. If you are looking to spend a bit less but want the deep purple color Marc Jacobs has some cute bags out in the same tone (including a Stam).
Hi Lottie, in addition to the Mademoiselle line that I got in purple, they did release a few others. However, I loved this one for our younger readers who want Chanel but have not been able to afford the $3500+ price tag of my purple petite matelasse bowler. This is not as dark in person!

Thank you for the reply, I understand it is very good value! I just think at only 25 myself I would rather hold out for the traditional flap bag as the hoops and clip that seem to attach the thick strap look like parts from a handy mans box!

My eighteenth birthday is coming up and i’m going to New York to pick out a handbag as my gift. Obviously, my eyes have been wide open on this site, and I think i’ve found the perfect bag!
I adore Chanel bags but didn’t think i’d be able to get one until i’m at least a graduate, as my parents are a little too strict on not spoiling me to stretch to the regular Chanel price range… but this is about the price brackets which I had in mind.
My only worry would be the purple not going with items in my wardrobe, but most of my clothes are navy and grey, so I think it would liven up my outfits if anything…

Hi everyone! I just wanted to ask you all a question regarding the classic Chanel flap bag. I’m planning to buy one in Hong Kong in September and have looked in NY and London and can’t decide whether the lamb skin or the caviar would be the best for me.
I know the lamb skin is more classic looking but I’m worried that it will get scratched. I’m 21 and travel a lot so would the caviar be the better investment? And also, which colour hardware do you prefer? Do you think the gold will look too mature for my age?

I would buy the caviar bag. I have both and the caviar does not show scratches or wear like the lambskin. The only thing is at your age, the lambskin might look more appropriate than the caviar. Just my two cents!!

Juju-You should go with the caviar leather it will not scratch and is beautiful. The lamb with wear and scratch very easily. Since you travel alot the caviar is a much better investment and will last forever. Either silver or gold hardware is fine whichever you prefer most you should go with. That’s my advice.
Juju-to echo the statements above…I have both the lambskin and the caviar. For my first Chanel classic purchase I went with the caviar. For an everyday bag (i got black with gold) this ages much better. I have two of the lambskin but buy these only when special seasonal colors (like the purple) come out in lambskin only. Also, as far as hardware color…I got my first when I was 18 and it seemed a little mature to the get gold but I am SO glad I did. It is richer looking, more classic. I wear both gold and silver jewelry so I love the mixture. But even if wearing all silver, your gold chanel hardware is always going to complement…i mean…it’s chanel…

I have just found that Chanel often only releases the seasonal colors in the lambskin rather than both caviar and lambskin. For me the seasonal colors are less “everyday” and I use them more when I am motivated to switch purses…HAHHA…so I tend to match the color to the outfit. The caviar is more durable and perfect for everyday. So if I was buying a black, white, brown, I would go for Caviar. I have the modern chain bag with the caviar leather; the first week I got it I went on a business trip and a flight attendant rolled over my bag with the beverage cart! It tore it in a few places, however, the caviar leather has still worn beautifully!

Wowee, this bag is super cheap for a Chanel and it’s leather too! Not like that cheap fabric one that was featured a couple weeks ago. Does anyone know if the classic 2.55 (not the double cc clasp) bag comes in Black leather & Gold hardware? I was told this color combination isn’t made every season?

This is wonderful! I was in Hong Kong last week and saw really gorgeous chanel bags. However, it is out of my budget. I just purchased a prada cervo lux in gray. However, this would be a great “first” chanel bag. Hopefully, I could have it soon.
