Fendi Secret Code

secretcode2.jpgsecretcode.jpg

Left bag in brown watersnake: $3840 Right in leather: $2210

I can’t believe I found a Fendi bag that didn’t make me cringe! I was a Fendi fanatic in the late ’90s thanks to the baguette but the last few years the brand has hugely disappointed me. Other than the ready to wear which I love, I generally stay away from Fendi when it comes to bags. But for Fall, the Secret Code has my attention. It’s not a great bag but I do find parts of it intriguing. The handle is alien-ish modern and the stones, is that some sort of secret code from the Kaiser? Would be really cool if you had to punch in a code on the stones to make the flap open. The gold hardware actually is a bit reminiscent of YSL as is the stitching but other than that, it is a decent bag. The shape is fairly classic, perhaps this is the new baguette for the millennium, or the Wall-E age (have you seen? Love that movie!) At Neiman Marcus. What do you guys think of the Fendi Secret Code? Snob or Slob?

  1. wow, I would have never thought this was a Fendi bag! Not a huge fun of this shape,it reminds me of power suits and the 80’s for some reason.. Those stones really make the bag intriguing but I find those on top and near that weird looking handle unnecessary. Watersnake looks much better than the black version, makes it more exotic looking.I would give it 5 out of 10,needs improvement, hope they will come up with a follow up,maybe a smaller version or something, would def buy it then.

  2. I agree with Tina, I have not found anything yummy at Fendi in a while but do like the Vintage tote in soft grey for Fall 08 at $1600, which is still somewhat reasonable. I can’t say I care for the Fendi Secret Code though.

  3. Snob.

If someone told me that this was a Fendi, then I would have not believed it, but you did, Tina, and I still do not believe it.

Its artistic in a way, and Fendi’s past horrors were just rebellious.

  4. I just looked at Neiman’s site-they even did boots with Fendi logo all over them! and matching Boston bag! gross!

  5. Beurk, I find it ugly. Really, what crossed their mind? I thought these brands had the best designers…

  6. I don’t like the black bag at all. The brown bag sort of reminds me of a saddle bag. The real ones not the Dior variety.

I might carry it if I wanted to fancy up some western wear. Of course, I’d first have to get some western wear … 😀

  7. Karl doesn’t design these bags, or all the accessories for Fendi. Silvia Venturini Fendi is the one responsible for accessories at the house of Fendi. Just thought I’d make that clear.

  8. Yes, I know of Ms. Fendi’s involvement with the accessories line but as Creative Director, Karl has an influence on the final products. 🙂

  9. I am NOT liking this! Any bag that reminds me of the word “pocketbook” is on my “SLOB” list.

  10. I don’t love this, too many balls, if they eliminated the top balls, the stones would look better. It does have a slightly retro feel, very lady. I don’t think worthy of the price.

  11. Snob! I tried this bag at Colette in Paris in light grey suede and I could not put it back… so I bought it and although I felt very guilty of having spent that much… and furthermore for a Fendi bag…I absolutly love it! It is so practical and just made like a piece of art. The light suede is fragile but so beautiful! Original and classic at the same time.

  12. Aurore – I’m with you, I adore the light grey nubuck though I would perhaps prefer the black or navy blue for the durability and ease of care. I’m horrible with suede / nubuck! There’s something about the handle I really like, though I’m not such a fan of the skinny over-the-shoulder long strap.

  14. This bag is totally Karl Lagerfeld, C.D. at Fendi. It has a Forties flair with the semi precious stones and darting. The angular, architectural stylings of the handle off-set the rounded flap on this bag. Have you seen it in Red, with Gun metal hardware, fierce!
