Yves Saint Laurent: A Life of Design

yslcouture.jpgyslatdior.jpg

My YSL vintage Haute Couture Gown circa 1972 purchased from Decades– one of my prized posessions.

I was so saddened to hear of the death of Yves Saint Laurent and would like to take a moment to reflect on one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. The man who put women in sexy smoking jackets, freeing them from poufy skirts of the ’50s and whom coined “effortlessly chic” with his revolutionary ready to wear designs (he is often referred to as “The Godfather” of RTW) will be missed by many. Last month we had the honor of hosting an event with Lou Lou de la Falaise, his muse of over three decades and who inspired the YSL smoking jacket, and had a lovely conversation with her about YSL. His legacy will no doubt continue on through the name he leaves behind.

  1. I always thought to myself how lucky I am to be alive when such an amazing designer from a former era is still alive. I thought I might see him someday, he was only.. 71, right? It seems like so many noteable individuals in the industry are dying, I can only hope that Valentino endures for many more years.

  2. William, I thought the same after spending time with Lou Lou. I am going to Paris soon and thought I might be able to get a glimpse of one of my all time favorite designers.

  3. This saddens me so much, and I feel the same way you guys do. So many people knew him; we were totally honored to share time space with him. I am remembering Catherine Deneuve and a picture I saw of her once in the early 2000s. She had the YSL logo painted onto her nails. I am remembering being so excited to have taped 5 Avenue Marceau 75116 Paris off the Sundance channel, being able to watch it while the world still has VCRs. I am thinking about the white suit he designed and would later be the suit Tina Turner escaped from Ike in. I am remembering an interview Anna Wintour gave Charlie Rose about a feud Yves and she were going through. The funeral will be no doubt be huge, the effect of his departure from this world, even bigger.

  4. A great loss,one of those people you just can’t replace…

Tina Dahling, have you ever worn this fab dress by YSL? You’re a petite thing and this mannequin looks quite tall
