I hate to keep ripping on Chloe (ok, fine, I enjoy it) but why all the hideous bags? The reputation is so bad now that Tina made fun of me for not getting rid of my Paddington (I took it out and was ridiculed, how sad is that?). That is the problem with these huge designers, once they go sour it ruins the whole batch. Just please take a look at this bag and tell me any redeeming qualities it has. The green is putrid – yes we love green but not this nuclear disaster on acid green. The band of bolts and studs and stitches just makes me itch for some reason, it is all wrong and does not belong there. The body shape is just blah, you can go to any low level mall shoe store for this run of the mill satchel. In fact, that is what this looks like. But if you’re crazy you can get it at Saks for $1755 to have a Chloe and then get laughed at by your best friend.
You’re totally right Kelly ! This is one ugly bag !
They should re-name the disaster – SCARY GREEN GOBLIN
i love my paddy (best leather ever), i love my edith (perfect schoolbag). i refuse to acknowledge that my babies have any relation to the atrocities currently on sale. chloe should have just stuck with its tried and true and stopped trying to be creative. honestly, i mean, that works for birkins.
While I fully agree that Chloe has recently produced some truly hideous bags, I don’t see why that should prevent anyone from continuing to use classics like the Paddington or the Edith. Do you wear a bag because it’s high quality and you like it, or because of its label?
I agree – I have a paddington that I got shipped from London last year in Feb to use as a diaper bag – my son was born in August – so that is how important the diaper bag was for me. I love the paddington despite the weight but I sent suggestions to Chloe as I was disappointed to see that the zipper was silver while the hardware was gold – something like this would not have happened in other good quality bags. Agree with comment – still love my paddy though this mismatch of zipper and hardware drives me crazy but what drives me more crazy is how heavily Chloe is being discounted and you can even buy it at Overstock.com There will be no brand left.
I have a large number of Chloe bags from A/W ’02 onwards (although, no ‘it’ bag styles, like Paddys, Ediths or Bays) and would never let the current design crisis at Chloe put me off them.
The problem is very simple – Paulo Melim Anderrson’s style is not right for Chloe and he should jump before he is pushed, IMO.
BTW, r2d2obi1, the mismatched hardware is not a a mistake, it is an intentional design feature that occurred on many Chloe bags from ’05 onwards. Think of it this way, you can wear gold and/or silver/white gold jewellery without it clashing with your bag. 🙂
Sorry, Andersson, not Anderrson.
Apparently, I can’t even be bothered to remember the correct spelling of his name! 😀
This bag is FUGLY. I live in Australia where the bags come much later but a few days after seeing this I saw it in person on some old mother. I was at the MLC Gucci boutique (hoping that Gucci might not have 100% rubbish, sadly it did). She was wearing a gorgeous Hermes cuff, but the rest was bull, and had a daughter carrying the fugliest bright orange/pink Fendi bag (obvioiusly the lack of style ran through the family). The brown squares on the side of the bag are cheap and disgusting, and the leather was more like shiny green crap. I feel like I now have to pray every time I encounter a Chloe bag.
I dig the acid green, actually. The more garish, the better this season. Chartreuse and mustard are in, for fuck’s sake.
i think that just because chloe is having a hard time after the fabulous phoebe philo has left the house, there is no reason to hate on every chloe bag that ever was. i actually expected that philo’s designs would be even more sought after, after she left. is this normal? that once a label is experiences trouble due to a change in designer, that brand is no longer valued? that would make me really sad since designers are what it’s all about, and it seems unfair that phoebe would have to pay for the bad choices made by the current designer.
Well I am trying to locate this bag for someone and I just called the Chloe boutique in California to ask for it. Well apparently this very bag in the bright green patent was so popular it sold out as soon as they got in the boutiques.
Personally I find it hard to judge a bag just from a picture and that definitley holds true for Chloe handbags. They always seem to impress me…
