Quinny Buzz – $499 and Quinny Zapp – $299
Confession…I have a stroller obsession. If I see a new stroller around town, I immediately turn green with stroller envy. Instead of searching for the self help group that I desperately need, I rush to the nearest childrens store to learn about the latest set of wheels.
Well, here is the latest battle…meet the Quinny. Dorel Industries Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of juvenile products in the UK, introduced their premiere European stroller line, Quinny, in the US in May. I held off for as long as I could, but I broke down a couple weeks ago and went to see what all the hype for the Quinny Buzz was about. This stroller looks like a slightly more contemporary version of the Bugaboo Frog at about half the price. The Buzz’s specialized hydraulic system allows for one touch opening. With just the lift of one finger, the Quinny Buzz was ready to head straight to the stores. The extremely cushy nylon chair, that I would love to sit in, faces front or back. The handle bar is height adjustable. Perfect for couples like Eva Longoria and Tony Parker. The Buzz Box, a bag that clips to the base of the stroller, holds your necessities. You can buy a Dreami Buzz Bassinet ($189.99) that will last until your baby weighs 15 pounds. It collapses easily with the twist of a right and left knob. All is going well so far; but then I go to lift the Quinny Buzz. This thing weighs 21 pounds! I have a double stroller that weighs just as much. I cringe every time I have to hoist it in and out of my SUV. Then, another snag, the Buzz only accommodates the Maxi-Cosi car seat. Overall, I liked the Buzz ($499). Let’s be honest, no stroller does everything we want. Otherwise it would cost a lot more than $499 and do midnight feedings too.
If you had your heart set on the Quinny, but are discouraged by the weight, don’t count it out just yet. Available in the US on July 15th is the Quinny Zapp ($299). Lighter weight than the Buzz, the Zapp is full size when opened yet the smallest stroller in the world when folded. While the Quinny strollers sell out quickly, Right Start has a special agreement with Dorel Industries, Inc. that helps stock as many as possible.
