Battle of the Bow

Top: Chloe, Felix Rey

Bottom: Kate Spade, Valentino

If you have a boring little black dress that you want to vamp up, get one of these giant bow clutches to make a statement, although I’m not sure what that statement would be. Bows are cute, don’t get me wrong, I think it looks really awesome on Hello Kitty. At first glance I thought maybe the Valentino bow clutch would be really great to liven up a formal event but then I came to my senses and realized how lame you would look having the bow extend out of the bag like it got unraveled. And don’t even get me started on the Kate Spade fuschia clutch that looks rubber. The Chloe gold bow is just tacky with the contrasting stitching on top of the distressed leather. I suppose the Felix Rey satin Lola is ok, only because I like the foldover style, but the bow with the one sash hanging down still doesn’t sit right with me. Valentino for $895 and Kate Spade for $245 both available at Neiman Marcus. Felix Rey for $200 at Shopbop. Chloe for $900 at Net-a-Porter.

  1. I must say that these bags are disappointing, like something from a craft project. I am hoping that the pictures just dont do these bags justice 🙁

  2. when i first saw the valentino clutch came out i actually did like it….but you’re so right on the fact that it does look stupid when u’re actually carrying it…..haven’t thought of that part b4

and thank you so much for the post on Valextra and interview with Massimo. That truly expanded my vision and opened my eyes to a house of real understated luxury.

  3. The Felix Rey is pretty cute, but like you said, the wearability is a bit shaky. The Kate Spade might be better looking in a different color – ivory maybe?

  4. Hi ……

I love your site…i can’t decide between the chanel navy quilted expandable s/s2007 or the round bowler(similar to what you have) in black f/w2006……Please help!!! although i always fall for variations of the quilted 2.55, i sometimes find them to be overly mature looking …..but I’m worried the round bowler may not be a collectible? any advice would be greatly appreciated…thanks

  5. The big white Valentino looks like Charlize Therons dress 2 years ago. With the massive bow on the shoulder! I loved the dress on her. Hate this clutch!

  6. There’s a little “secret” to the Valentino clutch. You can slip your hand thru the bow and use it as a wristlet. It’s actually very stylish.
