Is this a retro bag from the 80’s? Sure looks like it but guess what? It’s the latest from the House of Fendi. The 80’s are back again which is ridiculous considering that the 80’s hasn’t been gone long enough for it to keep coming back. The Spring runways showed a bunch of strappy strips of tight Alaia-esque dresses reminescent of Milla Jovovich’s The Fifth Element character (which I thought was like oh my god, like totally awesome). Yes, I spent the 80’s at the same mall as Moon Zappa but I’ve moved on. I am not one of those who hangs on to my childhood by being stuck in a time warp (acid washed, high waisted ass flattening jeans? no thanks.) Interesting bag but it’s not even a current interpretation of the 80’s, it’s too literal.
What do you think?
I don’t understand why the 80s are making a comeback – it wasn’t a particularly stylish decade; 40s, 50s, 60s, ok. But the 80s?
The 80’s influences are found everywhere in music and fashion at the moment. Whilst it wasn’t a terribly stylish era, it was exceptionally stylish in other areas. I think this bag would work very well in a trendy bar/club and any London folk reading will understand me when I say that this is a bit Hoxton/Shoreditch!
Bag Snob, this bag is actually from Fall 07 – not Spring. Take a look for yourself at the detail shots on Style.com: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/collections/F2007RTW/detail/thumb/FENDI?trend=&page=5.
: )
The reason the 80’s and other styles are coming back in is because no one can come up with an original idean anymore.
This one’s a near miss. Not worth dissing.
I just pray my cocaine habit doesn’t make a come back!
