I talked about this a little bit in some of my NYFW beauty recaps, but I have a strong feeling that brown is Spring 2012’s black and it’s making me very excited! It all started at the Lacoste show where they used brown mascara to give the models’ lashes a subtle shade, but one that was more unexpected than black. They didn’t use this one, but one of my favorites is
Bare Escentuals bareMinerals ‘Flawless Definition’ Mascara ($18) because of it’s no-clump applicator. Another stands-out were the chocolate lips and nails at Donna Karan — when I saw these I got super excited because I’m currently dying over Tom Ford’s new lip colors ($48), which include two fantastic browns: Coco Ravish and Deep Mink. The great thing about Donna Karan using brown is that it goes to show that you don’t need to be afraid to bridge into this color family…don’t the models look fantastic? Plus, if it has Tom Ford’s seal of approval you know it’s going to deliver (I previewed his entire beauty collection on Fashion’s Night Out and seriously…to die!!). There were also more nude and chocolate nails on the runways than I could count so it works out perfectly that the HIPPxRGB collection ($16) just launched and all four shades are foundation-inspired! I love that the nail shades can be almost a continuation of your skin, but that you can also opt for a high-contrast look. What are your thoughts on brown as the new black?
