If you regularly shop for cosmetics in France you’ve likely heard of Melvita — they’re hugely popular over there and now that the 25 year old company (a pioneer in natural and organic cosmetics — a lot of their products are so natural you can eat them — seriously!), has been acquired by L’Occitane they are hitting the US with a bang! They just launched their website and in November you’ll be able to buy their full line of products online (stores will begin rolling out at the end of the year). Stay tuned also for a Melvita giveaway on Beauty Snob in the next few weeks! The company was founded by Bernard Chevilliat, a biologist and beekeeper, who wanted to create a company that celebrated bees and helped disseminate a message of ecological and humanistic concerns. All of the products hail from Ardèche in France and meet the criteria of the Ecocert Ecological and Organic Cosmetics frame of reference. More on the line after the jump!
The organic beauty care and hygiene products stamped with the COSMÉBIO logo include:
– at least 95% of natural ingredients among all the ingredients
(water included).
– at least 10% of organic ingredients among all the ingredients
(water included).
– and at least 95% of organic ingredients among the vegetable ingredients.
Among my favorite products are their Flower Waters ($16-$19), which you can spray on your face or body to refresh yourself — they’re so natural and mild that you can also spray them in tea, coffee, or on cake for some extra flavor! They’ve also got a great Argan Oil ($24), which is meant for the face and body, but I’ve been applying it on my hair once ever three days for 20 minutes before washing my hair (just a dollop), and it has helped control frizz build-up. They’ve also go refreshing shower gels ($14, the scents are 100% natural), that don’t dry skin out. My favorite product from the line however is their organic honey ($19)! Amazing! It’s not on their website yet, but stay tuned. It’s absolutely delicious and comes in a variety of flavors..can’t wait to ring in a sweet Jewish New York (Rosh Hashanah) with some of it tomorrow!
oh this is great! i love L’Occitane too! always looking out for some new natural/organic lines to check out… thanks!
