Uggs — Do You Still Wear Them?

It has been about seven years since UGGs first burst onto the scene via Kate Hudson and other celebs donning them with ultra-minis. Though their appeal has somewhat dwindled they are still countless styles sold-out at Bloomingdale’s in NYC and at the Soho UGG store. Yes, I’ll admit it, I stocked-up and once again bought a few pairs this year! Forget that they’re not sexy, they’re not even that great quality — every year the pairs I buy get ruined by snow/rain (even though I spray them to help make them water resistant) and then others end-up hardening from the salt that gets put on the NYC sidewalks so I can’t fit my feet in them! So why do I buy them? Because they’re comfy and relatively inexpensive. Plus, compared to Timberland or even Pucci or Marc Jacobs Moon Boots, they are actually not that bad looking. Though I have to say if I wear the tall Uggs too long, they rub against the back of my ankle and start to hurt! Anyway, even after all this time, UGGs seem to still be popular and there are countless imitators. Of particular note, Australia Love Collective. That said, if your’re going to go for this kind of boot — stick to the original is my opinion! What do you think? Do you still wear UGGs?

DO YOU LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

  1. Sharon~~YES, I still wear my uggs, I have the pair on the left along with every other color on earth!! I have been wearing them for 20 years b4 they EVER!! became trendy! who woulda thought these boots would be so trendy. They are so comfy, I wear them often, I have girlfriends who make fun of me saying they are not cute, then they get a pair as a gift or what not,and they’re like OMG I love these I cant believe I waited this long to get a pair…My BFF just gave me the tall classic pair in the new grey for xmas (early) love them!!! xoxo PS..I dont tuck my jeans in them, I wear my jeans over them!! =)

  2. B, I’m with you, once I got a pair on my feet the world shifted. I finally realized what was so great about them. Since then, they haven’t left my feet since last winter lol. I was almost depressed all summer because I had to find a “summer shoe” to last me until the weather dropped below 80 degrees. I have three pairs and love the moccasins and I have the new grey pair too!!They are so cute. I bought my husband some house slippers for x-mas b/c he refused to be seen outside with them and he is now wanting a pair to wear outdoors…love it. they are cute in their own way but this isn’t about trendy or not, uggs are so comfortable. and they don’t “last” bc they are suede. you just have to take care of them, but otherwise all of mine are great quality and have held up to repeated abuse. 🙂

  3. I do not wear my Uggs anymore. I find that their soles are much too stiff and my feet get sore from walking too long in them. I prefer my Timberland boots (not the horrid hiker ones though).

  4. ANYMORE?! who on earth, especially if interested in fashion, would EVER wear uggs??!?!?! they are completely hideous and a product of horrible animal cruelty.

  5. uh, Chris, you don’t have to kill sheep to get their wool…you just have to give them a haircut.

but there are a LOT of boots out there made out of suedes/leathers…so…unless you want to start wearing PVC this is what you’ll have to put up with.

  6. I would never give up Uggs. So comfy! That’s why they have staying power. That said, I wouldn’t wear them in a ‘trendy’ way..for instance, I don’t wear mine when I’m going out to nice bars/restaurants unless it’s REALLY cold and even then I try to avoid doing so. And wearing Uggs with miniskirts or shorts is terrible for anything other than a morning coffee run.

  7. “uh, Chris, you don’t have to kill sheep to get their wool…you just have to give them a haircut.”

But maybe the sheep feel super dorky and bad about themselves with their new haircuts. It’s so cruel! LOL.

Anyway, I didn’t jump on the UGG bandwagon until last year. I was sick and tired of the bad winters and needed something to get me through them, so I bought my first pair. Once I put them on my feet, I suddenly understood the hype. I just love them.

I also convinced my mom to buy a pair and she’s now a diehard fan, too- and she’s the last person on earth who would ever spend a lot of money on boots ($100+ is a lot to her) or go for something “trendy”. She looooves her pair.

I’ve added a few more to my collection, and will likely keep wearing them for as long as they make them. They’re the ONLY thing that gets me out of the house on those horrendously cold and snowy days!

  8. I’m from Miami (too hot for Uggs) and I try to avoid trendy items, so I stayed clear of the Uggs. But this past fall, while on a trip in New York, I caved and got a pair of tall black ones. I needed something comfy and warm to do all the NY walking. I also figured they would get use when I go snowboarding. Let’s just say that when I tried them on, I kept them on. They are so comfy and snug – you feel like you are walking on clouds! I now get the hype and don’t think that they will ever go out of style. I have the same problem as Sharon as they do rub against the back of my ankle and hurt.

  9. my mom bought TWO pairs now in a MONTH…yeah Stacey for some reason hers rubbed against one of her heels too, which I have no idea what would cause that since all the pairs that I have had, have been absolutely divine from the moment I put them on, but maybe wear a band aid until you can fix it or return them…

otherwise, uggs are amazing, so practical, and even my grandmother wears a pair around the house lol 😀

and I do feel sorry for the poor sheep, but they have to get shaved anyway for whatever textiles and wool markets…might as well go towards uggs!

  10. I hate uggs, I think they are hideous and make your feet look ugly and shapeless. I also think they are one of those “somewhat expensive trends” sort of like coach. They are easy to get and unoriginal…and I hope they are on their way out.

  11. I bought a pair from Zappos when there was an Ugg sale, thinking that they’d be comfy and easy to wear. I ended up returning the pair after trying them for a few days at home. The flat sole is not ergonomically correct for walking and posture. As much as the material is soft and comfy, the walking part is what shoes are for. I must have my arch support. Besides, living in Los Angeles, wearing Ugg is really not necessary because it’s never that cold. So I sent them back and saved myself $100. Wearing UGG? Not for me.

  12. I own UGGs and lI absolutely love them, but people need to be informed about what sheepskin is (even though the name is self explanatory, many people seem to still be confused). Sheep are killed to make sheep skin boots, the suede on the outside is the sheep’s skin, and the shearling on the inside of the boot is the sheep’s wool. Its basically like turning the sheep inside out. There are some boots that are made by shearing the sheep of its wool and then sewing it to the leather (emu bronte) but sheepskin boots are made of the aheep’s wool AND the sheep’s skin. As we all know animals can not live without their skin… so its safe to say that the sheep used to make the boot is dead. Anyways… like I said I love my boots even though it is really grotesque to think about the fact that it is made out of an inside out sheep. Pleased be informed about the products you buy before you tell people that the sheep are fine and sheepskin boots are just made by shearing the sheep’s wool.

  13. What? The waterproofing didn’t last?? Help! I just got my first pair and plan to wear them in the snow / rain. How do I keep them from getting yuck?
